Quick Start

Get started with Mossie in about 5 minutes. By the end of this guide, you will have created your workspace, generated your first lesson plan, and set up your classroom.

Step 1: Sign Up

Go to mossie.education or download the Mossie app from the App Store or Google Play.

  1. Tap Get Started
  2. Sign up with your Google account or create an account with your email and password
  3. If using email, verify your email address via the confirmation link

You start with a 7-day free trial of Premium -- all features unlocked.

Step 2: Complete the Setup Wizard

After signing in, the setup wizard walks you through a few quick steps:

  1. Your name -- How Mossie greets you
  2. School name -- For context in generated content
  3. Timezone -- So reminders and scheduling work correctly
  4. Language -- Choose your preferred UI language (English, Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa, Spanish, Swedish, French, or Portuguese)
  5. Curriculum framework -- Select your curriculum standard (e.g., CAPS, Common Core, UK National Curriculum, Australian Curriculum)
  6. Subjects -- Add the subjects you teach
  7. Students -- Optionally add your students (you can do this later)
  8. Connections -- Connect Google Workspace for export (optional, can be done later)

Tip

You can skip any step and configure it later in Settings. The only required field is your name.

Step 3: Generate Your First Lesson Plan

Try an AI assistant right away:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Lesson Plan assistant
  2. Fill in the basics:
    • Subject -- e.g., "Mathematics"
    • Grade level -- e.g., "Year 5"
    • Topic -- e.g., "Introduction to fractions"
    • Duration -- e.g., "45 minutes"
  3. Tap Generate
  4. Review the structured lesson plan that appears -- complete with objectives, activities, timing, and differentiation
  5. Edit anything you want to change
  6. Tap Save to keep it in your documents

All AI outputs are drafts. You always have the final say.

Step 4: Set Up Your Classroom

Give Mossie context about who you teach:

  1. Go to Classroom (via the sidebar on web, or bottom navigation on mobile)
  2. Tap Add Subject and enter a subject name (e.g., "Year 5 Maths")
  3. Open the subject and tap Add Student
  4. Enter student names or anonymous identifiers ("Student A", "Blue Group")

Tip

You can import students from a CSV file. Prepare a file with one name per line, then use the import option.

Step 5: Upload to the Knowledge Base

Help Mossie understand your school:

  1. Go to My School (in the sidebar on web, or under More on mobile)
  2. Tap Upload
  3. Select a document -- a curriculum guide, school policy, or any reference document
  4. Choose a category: Policies, Curriculum, Vocabulary, or General
  5. Wait for processing to complete (usually under a minute)

Once processed, Mossie uses this document to align generated content with your school's standards and policies. You can also ask Mossie questions about it.
