Export Templates

Apply your school's formatting to every export.

What Templates Do

Instead of manually reformatting every document you export, create a template once with your school's layout, logo placement, and structure. Every export uses that template automatically.

How Templates Work

  1. Create a Google Doc or Google Slides file with your desired formatting
  2. Add placeholders using double curly braces where content should go: {{title}}, {{OBJECTIVES}}, {{ACTIVITIES}}
  3. Import the template into Mossie
  4. When you export, Mossie replaces placeholders with your document content

Creating a Template

Google Docs Template

  1. Open Google Docs and create a new document
  2. Add your school's formatting:
  3. Header with logo
  4. Footer with page numbers
  5. Standard fonts and colors
  6. Section structure
  7. Add placeholders where Mossie content should go

Google Slides Template

  1. Open Google Slides and create a new presentation
  2. Design your master slides with:
  3. School branding
  4. Consistent layout
  5. Title and content placeholders

Adding Placeholders

Placeholders tell Mossie where to insert content. Use double curly braces: {{placeholder_name}}

Tips

Design Tips

  • Keep it simple -- Clean layouts work best
  • Use tables -- Great for structured content
  • Test with real content -- Export a document to check spacing
  • Consider printing -- Check margins if templates will be printed

Placeholder Tips

  • Match case -- {{OBJECTIVES}} is different from {{objectives}}
  • No spaces -- Use {{teacher_name}} not {{teacher name}}
  • One per line -- Place content placeholders on their own lines
  • Add context -- Include section headers around placeholders

Troubleshooting

Template does not appear after import

  • Ensure Google Drive is connected in Settings
  • Refresh the templates list
  • Check that you have access to the Google Doc or Slides file

Placeholders not detected

  • Check the syntax: {{name}} with double curly braces
  • Ensure no extra spaces inside braces
  • Click Rescan Placeholders to re-detect

Content not appearing in export

  • Verify the placeholder is mapped to a data source
  • Check that the source document has content in that section
  • Ensure the mapping is saved
