iPad Experience

Mossie automatically adapts to the iPad's larger screen. When the display is 600 points or wider, the layout switches from bottom tabs to a persistent sidebar with master-detail views -- giving you a desktop-class experience optimized for teaching.

On iPad, the phone's four-tab bottom bar is replaced with a persistent sidebar on the left edge of the screen. The sidebar displays the Mossie logo at the top, seven navigation sections in the middle, and a Settings gear at the bottom.

The seven sidebar sections are:

Shortcut Section Description
Cmd+1 Home Your workspace dashboard with assistants and quick capture
Cmd+2 Lessons Lesson plans and lesson builder
Cmd+3 Series Lesson series (multi-lesson sequences)
Cmd+4 Activities Activity sheets and worksheets
Cmd+5 Classroom Students, subjects, and performance notes
Cmd+6 Resources Content library with uploaded materials
Cmd+7 Workflows Custom automation workflows

Settings

Settings is accessible via the gear icon at the bottom of the sidebar, or with the Cmd+, keyboard shortcut.

How It Differs from Phone

On phone, the bottom navigation shows four tabs: Home, Lessons, Classroom, and More. The "More" button opens a bottom sheet with links to Series, Activities, My School, Resources, Workflows, and Settings.

On iPad, all seven sections are visible in the sidebar at all times -- no "More" menu needed.

Master-Detail Layout

Several screens use a split-view layout on iPad. A list appears on the left panel (roughly 35% of screen width) and the selected item's details appear on the right.

Where You Will See It

  • Documents -- Document list on the left, editor or preview on the right
  • Classroom / Students -- Student list on the left, student profile and notes on the right

On phone, these same screens show either the list or the detail view, with a back button to return. On iPad, both are visible at once.

Verify

The exact screens using master-detail layout may vary as new features are added. The AdaptiveScaffold widget is available for any screen that benefits from a split view.

Split View and Slide Over

Mossie works in iPadOS multitasking modes:

  • Split View -- Run Mossie alongside Safari, your school's LMS, or any other app. Useful when referencing a webpage while building a lesson plan.
  • Slide Over -- Keep Mossie in a narrow floating window for quick capture while another app is full-screen.

The layout adapts to the available width. In a narrow Split View, Mossie may switch back to the phone-style bottom navigation if the width drops below 600 points.

Quick Capture on iPad

On the Home screen, the Quick Capture area is part of the workspace layout and is always visible. There is no floating action button like on iPhone.

  • Context chips -- Categorize your capture as a student note, activity log, or general note
  • Voice recording -- Tap the microphone to start recording, or use Cmd+R
  • Text input -- Type directly if you prefer

Responsive Grid

Cards and content grids adjust based on screen width:

Screen Size Grid Columns Content Padding
Phone (under 600px) 1 column 16px
Tablet (600-900px) 2 columns 24px
Large tablet / landscape (over 900px) 3 columns 32px

Tips for iPad Users

  1. Connect a keyboard -- Keyboard shortcuts make navigation significantly faster
  2. Use landscape orientation -- The sidebar and master-detail layouts work best with horizontal space
  3. Try Split View -- Keep Mossie open alongside your browser or lesson materials
  4. Use Siri on iPad -- All Siri Shortcuts work on iPad too ("Hey Siri, Mossie reminder")
  5. Quick Capture is always visible -- On the Home screen, you can capture notes without navigating anywhere
